Dynamics Gp Partner Newsflash: Great Plains Support Cost Reduction
If you are in the hands of hardest ever recession, this fact doesn’t mean that there is the end of the World and you are shutting down your accounting department completely and stopping ERP and MRP applications. We are guessing that better options here to relax and to speculate about renegotiating Dynamics GP support contract or even try to change your Dynamics GP VAR or Technology Partner. Well, you are not the first and you are not the last one. From the perspective of our 15n years old Great Plains Dynamics and general corporate ERP consulting practice – we recommend you to think about the following practice advises:
1. If you are business owner – get involved in initial Dynamics GP Partner selection process. Your employees might be and likely are the greatest people and specialists in their respective areas, however their objective might be different from your main line cost reduction. Meet your perspective Dynamics GP reseller face to face, over the web session or phone conference – your involvement is often needed or even required
2. Get your IT people maximally involved in Dynamics GP Implementation phase and following ERP system support. Be sure that your IT department is not opposing new ERP and MRP system implementation – this is the biggest concern
3. Train your IT people to support Great Plains in day-to-day operations: batches posting, backup and recovery plus SQL system optimization, creating and granting access to the companies to new users, Crystal Reports design, EDI, Integration Manager and eConnect data conversion, massage and integration. In our opinion, you do not have to confine these routines to Dynamics GP Guru – your IT support engineers should be the responsible ones. Also consider training your IT engineers to place customer support cases with Microsoft Business Solutions on Dynamics GP support – this might be a way cheaper option, comparing to inviting Dynamics GP consultant to visit your office (travel cost) to resolve the minor case
4. Separate Dynamics GP issues from general network and Microsoft Windows 2003, 2007, 64 bit versus 32 bit support
5. Great Plains Guru syndrome. In our opinion – we will definitely help you out there, but this might the best scenario from the budget standpoint
